I can’t suggest you any fix because I also can’t recreate the problem. But we have not such issue on our test site, so very likely the problem is caused by 3rd-party plugin or by some custom changes.

It was the problem in older theme version. You need to delete images use FTP.
You won’t have such problem with new images.

I’ve checked registration with the default theme and saw the similar problem.
Very likely it is caused by cache on your site.
At first, you need to solve this problem and achieve properly work with Storefront.

As I see, you made changes in index.php file. So, to achieve what you want you need to customize it more detail, for example, http://prntscr.com/f819fb
We recommend to make changes in the child theme https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes because you’ll lose all modifications after each theme update.

Please use PHP 5.6 or 7.0 because the current themes version isn’t fully compatible with 7.0.13.
After change PHP version, try to update the theme.

If it doesn’t help, make full backup of the site, DB and theme options, inform us and we’ll update theme for you.
