I want to translate my child theme.

I downloaded these two translation files:

    xstore-xstore-sr.po
    xstore-xstore-core-plugin-sr.po

When I rename xstore-xstore-sr.po to xstore-child-sr.po and import it into Loco Translate, I find the strings I want to translate. For example: “Be the first to review” , however, when I click Sync, Loco Translate displays a warning saying that the translation cannot be synchronized. The same thing happens with every string I try to sync.

I followed the video tutorial, but I don’t get the same result at all.

Am I doing something wrong? What is the correct way to create translations for the child theme?

    Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Unfortunately, we were unable to log in using the access credentials you provided. Please verify them and share the correct details.

We would also like to inform you that translations should primarily be applied to the parent theme. Once completed, these translations will automatically be applied to the corresponding child theme.

The correct file names for Serbian translations are xstore-sr_RS.po and xstore-core-sr_RS.po.

    Warm Regards,
    The 8Theme Team

I rename the file, and when I upload it to the Core, I get this error:
Error: File must be named xstore-core-sr_RS.po

    Please try logging in now.

    Hi, Nesa,

The error indicates that Loco Translate is expecting a translation file that matches the original text domain exactly. For XStore Core, the filename must be xstore-core-sr_RS.po, and for the theme it must be xstore-sr_RS.po.

We also don’t recommend renaming the existing translation files or creating translations for the child theme. Since the strings (such as “Be the first to review”) belong to the parent XStore theme, they should be translated under Loco Translate → Themes → XStore (or Plugins → XStore Core for plugin strings). Those translations will automatically apply when using the child theme.

Could you please let us know:

    – which exact file you are trying to upload (its full filename),
    – and where you are uploading it (Theme or Plugin translations)?

A screenshot of the Loco Translate page where the error appears would also be very helpful

In **Loco Translate → Themes → XStore Core → Upload PO**, under *Choose a location*, I select:
    System: `languages/plugins/xstore-core-{locale}.po

When I try to upload the original xstore-sr_RS.po file that I downloaded, I get the error: Error: File must be named xstore-core-sr_RS.po

You can also see the error in the screenshot.
https://prnt.sc/xyF7E_KdD5L3 here i choose xstore Core
https://prnt.sc/HS7KcuqltY6d here i choose Upload PO
    https://prnt.sc/s0F61mKUHiLe

As I mentioned, the files I download from this link https://www.8theme.com/glotpress/projects/xstore/xstore/ are: xstore-sr_RS.po and xstore-xstore-core-plugin-sr.po

    I try to translate theme.

Thank you for the additional information and screenshots.

From the screenshots, it looks like you’re uploading the theme translation (xstore-sr_RS.po) into Plugins → XStore Core. Since this page is for the XStore Core plugin, Loco expects the plugin translation file, which is why it reports that the file must be named xstore-core-sr_RS.po.

Could you please clarify which strings you’re trying to translate?

    – If the strings belong to the XStore theme (for example, “Be the first to review”), please open Loco Translate → Themes → XStore and upload/edit the theme translation there.
    – If the strings belong to the XStore Core plugin, then the plugin translation file should be used instead

Now I understand. You were right. I have just uploaded the file to the Theme. I managed to translate one piece of content successfully. I will let you know the results for the rest. Thank you. 🙂

I’m able to translate some strings, but not others. For example, **”No products in the cart.”** When I click **Sync**, I get the notification: **”OK: Strings up to date with xstore.pot.”** However, when I go to the homepage and check, the string is still not translated.

The same happens with **”No products in the wishlist.”** and **”No products in the compare.”** There are a few strings that I simply can’t get translated.

I’d also like to mention that after I click **Sync**, the **Save** button is no longer active, unlike the first time. Could this be the reason?

    Hello, Nesa,

Please note that some strings may come from different sources, such as theme files, plugins, or third-party integrations. We recommend checking whether these specific strings are included in the translation files of the related plugin or in the child theme if you are using one.

After clicking **Sync**, the **Save** button may become inactive if there are no new changes detected. This behavior is normal and should not affect the translation process. However, if the translations are still not visible on the frontend, please try the following steps:
    1. Clear your website and browser cache.
    2. Re-save the translation files after making sure all strings are synchronized.
    3. Check if the strings are being overridden by a plugin or custom code.

If the issue persists, please provide temporary wp-admin access in a private message so that we can check the configuration and assist you further.

I’m still unable to get it working.

When I was translating the frontend, the backend also got translated. For example, the **XStore Theme Options** interface is now translated as well.

Is there a way to keep the backend in English and translate only the frontend?

    Hello, Nesa,

There are several ways to do this:
    1. Translate only the strings used for the frontend.
    2. Use the built-in translation feature of XStore (details are provided in the attached files).

    Best regards,
