    First you need put images for all categories in Products->Categories.
    After that navigate to WooCommerce->Settings->Products->Shop Page Display and select show subcategies.

    You may need to regenerate your thumbnails after added images.
    Also try it with disabled zoom. Navigate to Theme Options->Single Product Page-> Zoom effect->disable.
