Full with menu – change column width

Hi,

Are you able to advise what css modifications could be made to increase the width of the columns in the full width menu? I am using this css definition in the main menu item: menu-full-width menu-column3

Some of the menu items are quite long and therefore wrapping – so it would be ideal if the width of the columns could be increased.

I would like the columns of the BRANDS menu to be wider so that the names aren’t wrapping.

Hello,

Try to add this code in style.css file of your child theme:

.menu-column3 .nav-sublist-dropdown ul li:nth-child(3n+1) { margin-right: 50px !important; }

How to create custom.css you can watch in this tutorial (it’s for Legenda theme but the process is the same).

Hi Eva,

Thanks for this. Unfortunately, despite clearing caches and trying different web browsers, I am not seeing any difference in the Brands drop down…. ? Are you able to produce / see a menu in which the columns are wide enough so the long names don’t wrap?

Hi Eva,

They look the same as my local copy which doesn’t have the changes – see screenshot:

The client would like it so that none of the brand names wrap – there are 3 which are wrapping currently and they are quite long, so the columns need to be quite a bit wider.

Hi Eva,

The good news is that those changes have the desired effect 🙂
The bad news is that putting the .menu-column3.with-image .nav-sublist-dropdown modification in the child style.css file has no effect because it is overridden by the value in responsive.css (see attached image). If I edit the value directly in responsive.css the menu is perfect – but this would then mean that any theme updates would overwrite these changes. Any thoughts on how to overcome that?

I understand your thinking there Eva, unfortunately that makes no difference either 🙁 Its as thought the responsive.css code is taking precedence.

I’ve added additional class for Brands menu item in Appearance > Menus and edited the css code in child theme style.css:

@media only screen and (min-width: 980px) { .menu-column3.with-image.custom_drop_down .nav-sublist-dropdown { width: 900px !important; }} .menu-column3.with-image .nav-sublist-dropdown ul > li { width: 200px !important; }

Please clear browser cache and check your site.

When viewing a product – clicking on the tabs beneath the product image (e.g. additional information, reviews etc.) doesn’t work.
e.g. http://www.maidens.livingdigitally.co.uk/wordpress/product/asha-black-low-back-top/

When viewing a product archive (e.g. http://www.maidens.livingdigitally.co.uk/wordpress/product-category/brands/2nd-day/) and the Product Hover Image setting is set to SWAP – nothing happens. The image slider option works perfectly however.

Hello,

Please update the theme to the latest version and Woocommerce as well.
Before update delete “woocommerce” folder in the directory wp-content/themes/woopress/ and it’ll be reuploaded from a new theme package.
Also update all required plugins https://www.8theme.com/download-plugins/ .

Don’t forget to create back up of your files and database before starting update process!

(it’s for Legenda theme but the process is the same).

Hi Eva,

I have done as requested – good news and bad news.

The good news is that it has fixed the problem of the product tabs not working.

The bad news is that it has introduced two new problems:
1. When I click Show Filter on an archive page (e.g. http://www.maidens.livingdigitally.co.uk/wordpress/product-category/brands/2nd-day/) the size and colour layered nav filters are no longer displayed.

2. I use the magic zoom plugin for the product zoom – I guess I’ll have to contact those guys now unless you can understand what the problem is.

There is a notice in error_log file:
PHP Warning: Missing argument 2 for apply_filters(), called in /home/olzhugag/public_html/maidens/wordpress/wp-content/themes/woopress-child/woocommerce/archive-product.php on line 29 and defined in /home/olzhugag/public_html/maidens/wordpress/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 177
The issue is caused by your customization in the file woopress-child/woocommerce/archive-product.php on line 29.
Please check it.

Hi Eva,

OK, I have ensured there are no errors being generated.

I have deactivated all plugins leaving only Essential Grid, Revolution =
Slider, Ultimate Addons for VC, Woocommerce and WP Bakery Visual =
Composer.

I have also activated the main theme (rather than the child theme).

I have saved the theme options.

No change 🙁
