    Dear 8theme Team,

The website broke after the most recent update.

I made a mistake to update the core plugin first and then the theme which I acknowledged right after I made the update. Then, a fatal error message appeared on the website and both the website and the WP dashboard were not accessible. I renamed the et-core-plugin in the wp-content/plugins to et-core-plugin-old to be able to access the WP dashboard to update the theme and then renamed the plugin back to the original name (et-core-plugin). However, since then the website broke and it is not loading.

I read about similar problems on 8theme’s forum and following some suggestions I tried to download the latest version of the core plugin from 8theme website and replaced it in wp-content/plugins, however, it did not solve the issue.

When I access the website in the inspect mode I can see in the console 7 errors saying that “Refused to apply style from ‘https://gotobed.eu/wp-content/plugins/et-core-plugin/app/models/customizer/frontend/css/et_global-single-styles.css?ver=5.3.3’ because its MIME type (‘text/html’) is not a supported stylesheet MIME type, and strict MIME checking is enabled.”

Also, in the networks tab, I see a couple of css and js files returning 404 and not being able to load. I deleted all of the cache using W3 Total cache and deleted some cache from cPanel as well. Tried to activate and deactivate the W3 Total cache to make sure it does not cause the problem.

Currently, I can access the WP dashboard and the website as an admin from the WP dashboard but the website is not accessible for anyone else.

Could you please support me in solving this issue or advise me what actions I can take? Just in case, I provided a temporary admin panel and FTP details if needed.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

    Kind regards,
    Darina

    Hello,

There were a lot of JS errors in the console and report about missing file from the core plugin. So I have removed the plugin and just installed it again. And everything works fine after that. Check, please.

    Dear Olga,

Thank you very much for getting back to me!

I tried to access the website in Chrome and Safari in both normal and incognito mode. Unfortunately, the problem persists and the errors still appear in the console.

Do I miss to do something to see the effects on my end?

    Kind regards,
    Darina

I can confirm the problem is not fixed yet. Still, I see the MIME CSS errors and also some “Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 ()” errors. Unfortunately, the whole website is not accessible at the moment. I attach a screenshot in the private area.

I followed some suggestions on how to fix the MIME CSS type error but it seems like it comes from the theme/core plugin. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to find a solution.

I am tempted to go back to the older Core plugin version since it didn’t cause any problems, however, I cannot find where to download the older Core plugin version from.

My team and I are a bit concerned since the website used to be fully functioning and currently, we are experiencing quite a lot customers’ complaints regarding not being able to access the website/their order/etc.

Could you please advise me how can we resolve the issue?

    Hello,

Do you have any server cache or CDN? Because it looks like some kind of server or CDN cache. If you are logged in everything works fine (as a rule cache is disabled for the logged in users) but once you try incognito – nothing works and errors from the old files.

    Dear Olga,

Thank you for looking into it!

I don’t have CDN cache enabled and don’t have server cache as well. Just double checked everything.

We tried to access the website on various devices and from a different location and can confirm that the users were not able to access the website (both new users and logged users). The website performs as it acts in incognito mode for all users.

    Kind regards,
    Darina

I managed to solve the MIME CSS errors. Apparently, the CSS styles were named etheme_builder-styles.css and the updated version of the theme/cor plugin were looking for et_builder-style.css and I just renamed the files. The error message was misleading saying it can’t resolve MIME type when it actually couldn’t find the files at all.

However, the other error persists and it is about some classes not found in theme.min.js which I am not sure how to solve. The screenshot shows the error in Safari browser in normal mode (not incognito).

    Hello,

Your hosting provider has the server cache http://prntscr.com/t278la
Please, contact your hosting support and ask them about this. You had the issue with those files because these files are out of date files from version lower than 2.3 of the core plugin, the latest version of plugin is 2.3.5, so as you understand it was changed 6 versions ago. Only cache could cause calling such out of date files.

    Dear Olga,

Thank you very much for your reply!

The plugins were installed after the update was made in order to remove the cache in case this was the problem. However, the cache is now removed and the plugins are deleted as well and the issue is still there.

    1) Revolution Slider problem after update
Another problem has been also detected. The revolution slider does not show the images anymore after the update. All cache has been removed, tests in different browsers have been conducted and new pages have been created in order to confirm the problem. So now the Revolution Slider which is the recommended slider by XStore does not work properly anymore after the theme/cor plugin update. It is worth mentioning that the photos appear when the page is in preview mode and does not show up once the page is published – this is the case with the pages created before the theme update and same for pages created after the update of the theme.

    2) Product Categories widget problem after update
A widget displaying the products categories on the left widget area (previously called shop widget area) was visible before the update. However, the widget disappeared after the update and when we try to display it back, the theme does not show the product categories widget.

Can you please advise us how to proceed further?

    Kind regards,
    Darina

    Hello,

    1) Provide us with link to page where you use the revolution slider. On the home page I see the slider element but it’s not the revolution slider. And problem with this element was caused by EWWW Image Optimizer plugin. Once I disabled the plugin images work.

    2) Provide us with link where you used shop sidebar. I have checked your shop page but found that you disabled the sidebar there and also added the home page content before the products (not sure why).

    Dear Olga,

Thank you very much for your help!!

    1) Indeed, the Revolution slider is back to normal after the EWW plugin has been disabled. Do you have an idea why the EWW plugin and Slider revolution do not work well together so that we can keep it in mind for the future?

    2) I attach a screenshot of the problem in the private area – after the update, it is said that the sidebar is no longer available. The products categories were visible on all pages of the website except the home page. We try to get them back and add the “Product categories” in the Widget > Shop Sidebar and Widget > Shop Filters but nothing changes.

    3) The third issue we noticed after the update is a problem with the mobile menu. I attach a screenshot in the private area demonstrating the issue. Some of the menu categories and subcategories are not displayed correctly as the rest and smashed into a very limited space.

    Kind regards,
    Darina

    Hello,

Olga will not be available within a few days, I will try to help you.
    1) We are theme developers, so we can’t assist you about 3rd party plugins. Maybe developers of EWWW Image Optimizer plugin, will be able to answer your question.
    2) Go to Pages > Shop page > change Sidebar Position to Inherit – http://prntscr.com/t49l98 (for all languages).
    3) Please provide temporary FTP access.

    Hello,

Provide us with temporary FTP access (not cPanel) – FTP host, FTP user, FTP pass. If you don’t know your FTP access, contact the hosting provider and ask this information.
