My site was having problems with slider revolution… so I thought maybe an update to the 5.0 Xstore could solve the problem. But these didn’t help at all… infact my whole site got royally F’d… so I decided to just reinstall the 4.x version…

Now my whole world is F’d… nothing works… not even wordpress itself!! Please help… I’m a bit of a noob.. and I’d rather not mess anything else up till I get advice…

    Hello,

Do you use server cache? Varnish etc? Could you, please, disable it during update?

    Regards

    Hello,

Problem was caused by the updated version of XStore core plugin that is required for the 5.0 version of XStore theme. I have downgraded core plugin, updated Revolution slider, Infinite scroll and Massive addons plugins. I don’t know what widgets you had in widget areas and I suppose they are messed up now, so, please, go to Appearance > Widgets and move them into correct areas.
Tell me what problems did you have with the Revolution slider?

Also, if you create staging site we can help you to update theme to version 5.0 there and then you’ll be able to fix some moments with styles if you want.

    Regards

First of all… thanks for getting my site back up… you rock!! I was scared I royally F’d it up.

To answer your question. The revolution slider (Which is the main function to my opening page) was failed. Just brought up some error in red about “Vimeo problem… SSL certificate needs to be updated” <– paraphrasing… not 100% sure what it said exactly. Anyway… The slider said it could be updated… but I couldn’t figure out how to update it without having to buy it. I know that it was included with X-Store and that it usually updates on its own when I update X-Store. But it wasn’t updating with the newest 4.x update. This is why I pulled the trigger on the beta 5.0… then all hell broke loose… haha

As far as 5.x… What do you mean by staging site? Do I need this to update to the 5.x? Or can we just toss it up and then see what needs tinkering. I guess… I just not really sure how I go about staging a site…

    Thanks
    Jake

    Hello,

    You are welcome!
The latest version of Revolution slider you can always find here https://www.8theme.com/download-plugins/ and also all the other included plugins. You can update plugins manually via FTP or delete and install plugin again using the new archive.

Staging site is a full copy of the existing site, you can read more here https://themeisle.com/blog/wordpress-staging-site/ Before update production site it would better to make the update on staging site and then decide what things should be changed to proceed with the update on the production.
