After I have disabled the generation of thumbnails in the wordpress media settings —> image sizes – it still generates a lot of thumbnails per image I upload.
    Example – I uploaded this image: test-image.jpg
Looking i my file manager I can see that there has been generated 10 thumbnails:
    test-image-100×100.jpg
    test-image-10×7.jpg
    test-image-1536×1024.jpg
    test-image-1×1.jpg
    test-image-2048×1365.jpg
    test-image-300×300.jpg
    test-image-600×400.jpg
    test-image-600×600.jpg
    test-image-768×512.jpg
    test-image-scaled.jpg

Is this expected behavior. If yes is it possible to disable it?

    Hello,

Some image size are generated by:
    a) theme (test-image-10×7.jpg,test-image-1×1.jpg) for the LQUIP loading of the images (Theme Options > Speed optimization > Image loading type) to speed up the page loading and show the short image for start and only then load the necessary image.
    b) WooCommerce (I suppose test-image-300×300.jpg or test-image-600×400.jpg and test-image-600×600.jpg) depending on your settings in Appearance > Customize > WooCommerce > Product Images
    c) WordPress default image size (I suppose test-image-1536×1024.jpg, test-image-100×100.jpg, test-image-300×300.jpg etc) depending on your settings in Settings > Media.

System uses an appropriate image depending on the situation. For example, there is no need to load full image 2048×1365 for the product gallery or for the shop page grid because it will slow down the site, and system loads the shop thumbnail size from the WooCommerce settings, or there is no need to load full image size of the post for the post widget and system uses WP thumbnail size etc.

Read this post to find out how to disable them https://perishablepress.com/disable-wordpress-generated-images/#:~:text=To%20disable%20or%20customize%20Thumbnail,of%20these%20extra%20size%20images.

    Regards
