  Swap on hover featured image on simple product is possible and I have tried it out.
  But, the hover image is not working on variable products featured image.
  Is that so?

  P.S. Your images are large. We would recommend you to use Tinypng to optimize images https://prnt.sc/1iqh5ds In another case you will face a slow site issue. It would be great to optimize images to make them up to 100kb in size.
