    Dear 8Theme Support,

I’m reaching out regarding a performance issue I’ve recently encountered on my website. The frontend feels noticeably slow and unresponsive whenever I’m logged into the WordPress backend—regardless of user role.

To troubleshoot, I’ve tried the following steps:

Cleared cache using WP Fastest Cache.

Optimized the database using WP Optimize.

Uninstalled WP Adminify, which I had initially installed and which caused noticeable backend slowdowns.

Unfortunately, these actions didn’t resolve the issue. I also suspect that the problem may be related to the theme version. While attempting to apply the latest patches, I discovered that my theme version was outdated, and some patches couldn’t be applied. I followed the official video guide to update the theme, but the new version did not appear in the dashboard, preventing me from completing the update.

Additional possible contributors to the slow performance:

A relatively large product catalog (~300 products).

    Approximately 25 active plugins.

Could you please advise on how I can proceed with updating the theme successfully, and whether any known compatibility or performance issues may be at play here?

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Best regards,
    Filip

    Hi Filip,

Thank you very much for the information — it’s truly helpful and interesting, and we appreciate your effort in sharing it with us.

We understand the situation and would be glad to assist further. However, please note that we currently do not have access to your cPanel or hosting environment, which limits our ability to perform a detailed investigation on our side.

From the screenshots and the video you’ve shared, it appears to be a similar case we’ve encountered before with another customer, where a bot — possibly a Meta (Facebook) crawler — was involved. To confirm this and proceed with a proper investigation, we would need access to the necessary tools and logs, which are typically available through your hosting control panel.

We kindly ask you to provide us with access to these tools or any additional relevant data so we can analyze the issue thoroughly and assist you more effectively.

Thank you again for your cooperation and understanding.

    Dear Filip,

Thank you for providing the cPanel credentials.

We have reviewed your site details. Unfortunately, your current panel does not include tools that allow for detailed scanning and diagnostics. However, we did discover something noteworthy during our review.

We’ve found in your log files that your shop page is being indexed an unusually high number of times, which is causing your server to become overloaded. This level of activity is not typical of regular users — it is most likely caused by bots.

If you are not using the latest version of your theme, we recommend updating it, as the latest release includes improvements specifically for the shop page. However, based on our experience, bots often ignore nofollow and noindex directives and continue to crawl the shop page regardless.

As a quick and effective solution, we recommend setting up protection via Cloudflare. This can help mitigate the impact of bot traffic and reduce server load.

We are also sending you a link with more details via private message.

    Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your reply. I have updated the theme, but as you pointed out, it hasn’t helped. As for the bot crawlers overloading my server, I have discussed this with the hosting support. They quadrupled my threads to 16 and doubled the RAM capacity to 1024 MB so I could test it. With these changes, the server should no longer be overloaded.

Despite that, the frontend — when logged into the admin environment — is still rather slow and unresponsive. Therefore, I assume that the underlying cause of the problem lies elsewhere. After testing this more powerful hosting setup, I will definitely try the Cloudflare services as well.

The thing is, this is the only site where I’m experiencing what looks like a power inefficiency issue. Hence, I don’t think my hosting is the root of the problem.

Could I kindly ask for your further assistance or any suggestions on what else might be causing this issue? I’d truly appreciate any insight or recommendations you might have.

    Best regards,
    Filip

    Hello,

    I hope you’re well.

I’m writing to share that I’ve identified the root cause of my website’s slowness and unresponsiveness. After some testing, I discovered that the issue is linked to the shopping cart widget located in the header. You can replicate the problem yourself — once the widget is removed, the lag disappears entirely.

Additionally, I’d like to report a new issue that appeared after the recent theme update. The mini wishlist sidebar remains blank, even when there are items added to the wishlist.

I’d appreciate your help in resolving these issues.

    Best regards,

    Hi Filip,

Thank you for your message and for taking the time to investigate the issue.

To confirm, are you saying that the server slowdown on your website was resolved by disabling the cart widget in the header? If so, please kindly confirm this, as we can currently see that the widget is active and functioning on your site.

Regarding the wishlist issue you mentioned — thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have identified the problem and will address it in the next theme update or patch, which will be released soon.

We appreciate your feedback and cooperation.

    Hi Andrew,

Yes, I can confirm that the slowdown on my website’s frontend—when logged into the admin environment—was resolved by removing the cart widget from the header.

To clarify, I’m not suggesting that the widget itself is broken or non-functional. I temporarily left it in place so you could experience the performance difference firsthand upon logging in.

In the meantime, I’ve removed the widget, and the site is now running smoothly.

    Best regards,
    Filip

    Hi Jack,

After some further testing, I can confirm that the homepage performs well with the cart widget active. However, the same cannot be said for the other pages.

I’ve attached a reference video in case you’re interested—it essentially demonstrates what I’ve described. The homepage works smoothly, but once the shop page is interacted with, the lag returns.

Let me know if you’d like any further details.

    Hello @Filip,

I hope this message finds you well.

We would greatly appreciate your assistance in investigating the source of a performance issue we have encountered. It appears that the slowdown of pages begins after applying any of filtering actions on the shop page. Our initial analysis suggests that certain scripts or wp-cron may start loading at that point and continue to affect performance across other pages as well.

Could you kindly confirm whether all actions are properly loaded and functioning as expected prior to applying any filters?

Additionally, we have observed that removing and then re-adding the Cart widget in the header seems to reset the slowdown effect. If you notice that pages are loading slowly with the Cart widget enabled, you might try temporarily removing it, saving the changes, and then re-adding it to see if this resolves the issue.

We are committed to identifying and resolving this problem, but at this stage, we have not yet determined the root cause. Your insights and support would be invaluable in helping us move forward.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

    Hi Jack,

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to assist with the first part of your message, as I’m not particularly tech-savvy. As for your question, I can’t confirm that either. I understand you’re trying to narrow down the scope, but I genuinely don’t believe this is an issue related to filtering.

From my experience, any AJAX call — whether it’s adding a product to the cart, applying filters, or removing items from the mini cart — becomes extremely slow and laggy, but only when the cart widget is present. Without the widget, everything works noticeably better.

With all due respect, I don’t think it’s accurate to say that everything would be fine if it weren’t for the filters. As soon as I enable the cart widget, the entire page builder becomes practically unusable — and I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s far from ideal to be forced to refresh the page every time it loads with that kind of lag.

I’m also sending over a video to show you exactly what I’m experiencing on the site.

    Best regards,
    Filip

    Hi Jack,

Thank you for your reply. I completely understand that you are focusing on finding the root cause of the problem. However, as I have mentioned several times before, I kindly ask that you also investigate the source of the issue within my website — specifically the cart widget, its backend flows, and any potential loops and conflicts connected to this widget and its functions.

Your attention to this area could help significantly in narrowing down the cause.

Thank you for your efforts and continued support.

    Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I believe there may have been a slight misunderstanding, as I was also referring to a different issue beyond performance optimization.

Specifically, the mini wishlist sidebar on my website does not display the items added to the wishlist — it appears blank, whereas in your demos it functions correctly. In addition, my mini cart does not open when an item is added to the cart, which significantly impacts usability.

Could you please confirm whether these malfunctions might be related to the current testing or optimization work you are doing on the performance issue? To help illustrate the problem, I am also attaching a screenshot.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could look into this matter as part of your support assistance.

    Hello @Filip,

We hope this message finds you well.

The issue you encountered appears to be related to an outdated version of the XStore Core plugin currently installed on your website (version 5.4.14). Please note that the latest version, which includes all recent fixes, is 5.5.3.

The reason the update was not visible on your end is due to the “White Label” settings you have enabled, specifically the option shown in the following screenshot: https://prnt.sc/LLYJSO3q0k_Q.

To assist you, we have gone ahead and updated the XStore Core plugin on your website. We kindly ask you to verify whether the issue has now been resolved: https://prnt.sc/zJwLwUVHWEZz.

Should you have any further questions or require additional assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.

    Hi Richard,

I can confirm that everything is now working properly — thank you for your assistance.

Regarding the performance issue, I completely understand that you’re addressing things as needed, and I certainly don’t mean to single anything out. The one detail I’m able to provide is this: when the admin is logged in and the website loads, a script appears to run within 1–2 seconds, causing noticeable lag. This may or may not be the same or a similar script that affects performance during any AJAX call. Prior to the script loading, the site performs normally; afterward, the slowdown becomes evident. Refreshing the page does temporarily resolve the issue.

    Dear Support Team,

I’ve been struggling with this issue for several weeks now, and it has become increasingly concerning. After further testing, I believe I have identified a more specific cause.

As I mentioned previously, the performance lag on my site is linked to the XStore cart widget. This still holds true. However, after experimenting with the widget settings, I discovered that setting the Content Type option to None (instead of Off-canvas or Dropdown) completely resolves the issue. With this configuration, the site performs smoothly—whether upon initial load, after adding a product to the cart, or when using filters on the shop page.

To assist with your investigation, I would suggest that the root of the problem may lie not directly in the theme but in a script responsible for loading the cart content at session start. This could explain why the lag occurs immediately on the first load, yet disappears after a page refresh. Once a product is added to the cart, the lag reappears—possibly triggered by the same script running in a loop. The same behavior occurs when using the filtering options, although I am unable to explain why filters would trigger it. This applies to both the dropdown and off-canvas content types.

I hope this detailed information helps narrow down the root cause. I would very much like to continue using the off-canvas functionality once the performance issue is resolved.

    Best regards,
    Filip

    Hello @Filip,

Thank you for sharing the details of your tests. We appreciate your efforts, and it appears that we were aligned in our observations.

The primary cause of the performance slowdown is related to the WooCommerce cart fragments script. You can find similar reports and discussions on this issue in the official WooCommerce GitHub repository: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/31981.

As for your current setup, there are two possible solutions:

    1. You may disable the off-canvas content, as you have already discovered in the Cart Widget settings.
    2. Alternatively, if the cart fragments script is active, you can disable it via Theme Options → Speed Optimization.

Additionally, we recommend reviewing the following article, which provides further insights into the use and impact of the cart fragments script: https://www.businessbloomer.com/woocommerce-why-how-to-disable-ajax-cart-fragments/.

Please note that we are currently experiencing a high volume of support requests. However, our development team is actively working on performance improvements, and the test results you have provided are valuable in helping us enhance our theme.

Thank you once again for your input and understanding.

    Best regards,
