Site slowed down - by burneyrubber - on WordPress WooCommerce support

Hi
recently my site has slowed somewhat.
what can i do within the theme to sort this out?
for example on the legenda theme the page shows new items and featured items but gtmetrix is telling me to serve scaled images for the images that are within these sections new and featured so this is surely a theme issue as its the theme that puts the images there not me.

any help appreciated because the site is so slow.

thanks for the reply.
i have optimized the images a couple of times now but what is bothering me is the Serve scaled images because the images it is referring are the ones that the theme put into the new and featured bars on the main page.
so when i mark an item as new the them puts it on the main page. see the report as most of the images it is asking for served images are in these boxes and are otherwise optimized on the rest of the site.
