    Hello!

My client recently updated to WooCommerce Version 3x – which – no longer works properly on the shop pages – so – we’re looking to update to the latest version. We’ve followed the instructions on how to update and everything went fine up until we had to activate the theme.

When I attempt to put in my activation code, it says “API request call error. Contact your server providers and ask to update OpenSSL system library to the 1.0 version”

We’re hosted with VentraIP and I reached out to them and they said that they already have OpenSSL V1.0 on the server and asked me to try it again over HTTPS – so – I did and I got the same exact error.

Can you please help me out here? We’ve already running an older version of your theme and we love it. We just simply want to upgrade to the version that supports 3.0.

Thank you so much for your help!

    Best,
    Zack

    Hi,

    1. Make sure the theme is registered with the license key just in case.
    2. If still that fails, can you try a manual update of downloading the zip from themeforest, and unzip it and upload to wp-content/themes using your FTP. https://8theme.com/demo/docs/woopress/index.html#!/installation_upgrade

    Let us know,

    Thanks,
    laranz.

    Hey Laranz!

Thank you so much for your reply, I appreciate it.

Upgrading via FTP is actually how I am doing it and I’m getting that error. Whenever I upload the new version files it immediately slaps my site with a “PLEASE ACTIVATE YOUR THEME” message making it not usable.

When I go to activate it, I put in my purchase code from ThemeForest and it gives me that error back:

“API request call error. Contact your server providers and ask to update OpenSSL system library to the 1.0 version”

Again, I’ve already spoke with the host (VentraIP) and they do not believe OpenSSL should be a problem based on their settings.

If I restore a backup of my old theme folder, everything works fine again and it remains activated. No issues.

Does that help clear things up, can you please try to help us get this rolling? My client site is currently broken under WooCommerce 3x until we can get this fixed. No good. :x.

    Thank you!

    Best,
    Zack

    Hello,

Contact your hosting provider and make sure that wp_remote_get function is enabled on your server.
Let me know about their answer.

    Regards

    From the host —

“As far as we’re aware that one should be enabled as long as you have a working install of wordpress it’s the wordpress install itself that offers that functionality. We ran a test PHP from your site to confirm and it doesn’t error out.

We also do not see the problem anymore.
We have activated your theme. Please check.

    Hey Guys —

First off — thank you so very much for your help, it’s greatly appreciated.

The only struggle here is it looks like you activated the theme outright – but – we were using a child theme, when I try to activate the child theme it white screens. Before it wasn’t white screening, but instead, just asking for activation.

Can you see why? If you activate the theme outright it seems like the top menu is broken and things are a bit off:

    Thank you so much.

Our biggest concern is we just want the shop pages working well – which – this DID seem to fix, but, I don’t think an upgrade should cause that much mayhem. :S

    Best,
    Zack

    Hello,

If the white screen appears with child theme, but with the latest version of parent theme the site works fine that problem relates to your changes in child theme and you need to check changes that you made there, turn on WP_DEBUG in wp-config.php, it will tell what cause the problem https://codex.wordpress.org/WP_DEBUG.
Also, you need to update all required plugins https://www.8theme.com/download-plugins/

    Regards
