    Hi All,

    I am relatively new to WordPress and WooPress, so I am sure my description of my problem is not great, apologies. But my situation is as follows, it is a long explanation but I figure more is better, so thanks for hanging in there;

    1) I have installed AMPPS on my computer and created a basic WordPress site by installing WordPress using the AMPPS functionality. So my site is http://127.0.0.1/woo/

    2) I have then purchased Woopress and installed that theme to replace the default Worpress theme used by AMPPS.

What I found happening though is that the characteristics of the old theme began appearing in the new Woopress theme across most of the pages after working on the site for a short period. Specifically a search bar, Recent Posts, Recent Comments, Archives, Categories, and META would all appear vertically down the left hand side of the screen, with all the ‘Hello World’ text and sample comment and post, etc.

After much frustration and a few install attempts, I worked out (I could be wrong!) that the default Worpdress theme consisted of two pages, a Sample page and a blog page set as the home page (that didn’t appear in the Page List that shows all pages that I can edit). I went into the blog page and deleted all the widgets that contained the above stuff so the page was essentially blank, I set it as a static home page (rather than a blog page) and then deleted the Sample page. So the website had as little content/formatting/pages as I could manage.

Then I installed Woopress. Much better this time and at first all was fine (like earlier attempts). But all of a sudden, and I dont know what I do to make it happen, I now have a Search Bar appearing across several of my pages, including the home, blog, and cart pages (it appears in the slider on the home page). I have no idea where it is coming from, it cannot be deleted when I try to edit the individual pages, so I think it is being inherited from the original template.

Can anyone explain what is happening here? It is driving me nuts!

    Hi,
Site won’t let me edit the original post…but thought this will be relevant.
Playing around with Widgets under Appearance and if I add an object to the main sidebar it replaces the search box, but once I remove it again, the search box comes back. So for some reason this box is defaulting to the main sidebar.
    Thanks

    Hello,

To remove sidebar from your pages you need edit a page (edit each page where you want to delete sidebar) in wp-admin panel > Pages and select Sidebar Position as “Without Sidebar” in Page Layout box:

If you just want to hide search box you can add empty Text width in Main Sidebar area.

    Hi Eva,

Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate it. I did manage to hide it, so good in that regard. But would prefer that I didn’t have to.

Can you confirm that the contents of the main sidebar is by default a search bar and it has nothing to do with the old template? Because when I go into the widget area (Appearance/Widgets/Main Sidebar) and attempt to clear the sidebar, i.e. remove the search box, there is nothing in there…so completely confused by it. When I add something (like a text box with a space like you suggested), it does appear blank but skews the whole site to the right, so hiding it is best!

    Thanks

    Hello,

Search bar is added to Main Sidebar by default and it’s not related to old template, but to WordPress itself.

    Is your issue resolved now?

    Regards,
    Eva Kemp.
