Need help to update theme to new verison

Hi,

I need help to update my theme.
Actually I have add code in “Additional Css” section.
and few more things customized by you according to my requirement.
I don’t want to loose anything.
Please help to update theme.

Actually In starting, I forgot to activate my child theme.
Now all settings are under parent theme.
I tried to activate child theme but all structure messed up.
I need your guys.
I have update all plugins, the only thing pending is Theme.
Please help for it

Hello Chandni,

We recommend that you take a full backup of your site before attempting to update your theme via FTP.

Please refer to our theme documentation here: https://xstore.helpscoutdocs.com/article/63-theme-update for instructions.

We suggest that you rename the old version of the theme rather than deleting it until you are sure that the update has been successful.

I am little confused about theme updating. As I mentioned that Your team customized my theme change layout and add extra functionalities.
Somehow! Those all things are under main theme, not in child theme.
Can you please tell me?
After updating, those changes will stay or not?

Hello Chandni,

Thank you for your response.

The child theme does not inherit the theme options of the parent theme, if you enable the child theme, you need to import options from the parent theme.
Go to Theme Options (when the parent theme is activated) > Import/Export > download the export file. After that activate the child theme > go to Theme Options > Import/Export > import your options and reload the page without saving! Save options only after reloading. Check your site after that, and use the child theme.

If changes were done in Theme Options, after Export/Import all will be fine.
If changes were done in files of the parent theme, you need to move them into child theme files before the parent theme update (as a rule our team never edits files of the parent theme).

You can ask your hosting provider to create a full backup to be able to revert updates if something goes wrong. Or you can create a staging site (full copy of the existing one), to be able to do updates / test there first, without affecting your business.

I done as you said..
Export data to child theme. Header looks little different. Rest of all fine.
What to do with header?

There is a message on your site that you updated the Core plugin but not the theme. You need to update XStore – https://xstore.helpscoutdocs.com/article/63-theme-update
Let us know once it will be done, we will check the problem with the header then.
