You see a lot of themes with the menu below the slider, and then it sticks to the top once you scroll far enough. Something like this: http://demo.theme.co/ethos-3/

I was hoping I might be able to achieve this without customizations.

Hello,

Actually, you may try to implement this.
1) Create fullscreen slider
2) Add the Revolution slider widget into right top bar widget area and choose for the home page only http://prntscr.com/dilcot
3) Edit home page and disable breadcrumbs, sidebar, prefoter, footer and copyrights in page settings.http://prntscr.com/dild6c
4) In the custom CSS of the page add the following code and save the page.
