Is is safe to update WPBakery Visual Composer to version 4.8.1? If so, since we have purchased the theme, does this come with free access to the upgraded version?

Yes. Also please make backup of the site before update.

You can download the latest plugins versions at this link https://www.8theme.com/download-plugins/ ,
enter your purchase code of the theme to get the plugins.

To update the plugins, switch to your server with FTP. Copy extracted plugins folders into wp-content/plugins/ folder
