WooCommerce > Settings > Emails > New order > make sure that notification is enabled.
Check if you have this problem when a default theme (Storefront) is activated on your site, or with our theme only.
Contact your hosting provider and ask them to check the mail server error log.

No, you’ll get them back once activate the child theme again.
Only widgets could be messed up after theme switching. So, make sure that you remember where all the widgets located to move them to correct areas after switching if it’s needed.
