Hello, @sharkslo,
1. Unfortunately, this is not possible as there is no such option in our theme for this, so this requires extra Customization and this is beyond our limitations.
2. Yes it is OK. No need to worry about that and Child Theme is used for the extra Customization if you want to add to your theme, other than that it does not have any effect on the site.
