A general question about link redirect - by hansona

Hello 8theme,

In product pages I use Categories sidebar like a menu. Is there any way to assign a link to a product category or redirect it to a page link? I found couple of redirect link plugins around but the worst luck, they work just on the posts and pages.

Hello Stan,

Let me describe it with an example. Imagine you have a product category called ‘XYZ’ containing ‘x’, ‘y’ & ‘z’ subcategories. The link/url/address for the ‘XYZ’ category will be:
“http://www.website.com/product-category/XYZ”
On the other hand you have a page and/or post called ‘XYZ’ which is most complete version of ‘XYZ’ products (including x, y & z besides some media, text & etc.) with the following url:
“http://www.website.com/XYZ”
On the sidebar you have applied “Product-Category” widget including ‘XYZ’ (so it lands on the “http://www.website.com/product-category/XYZ”) and on the Top/Main menu you have ‘XYZ’ page as a menu item (that lands on the other link).
Now my question is; how to redirect “http://www.website.com/product-category/XYZ” to “http://www.website.com/XYZ”? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,

In this case you need write redirect rules in your .htaccess file.
Please refer to this article:

Also your hosting provider should help you with redirection.
