Hi there, I want to use a custom email template, but I only want to use it for the new order they receive. When they get it, they should receive the new, updated template. I don’t want to go through every single email to change them all, because it takes too long.

I’d like to keep stuff like password reset and everything else the same. Is there a way I can have it override only the new order or their order details email?

    Hello @Allan Morrow,

You can use our built-in Email Customizer Builder and either remove all other email templates or set the default type of email template (https://prnt.sc/KCla2nS9BSq8) if you would like to modify another template later. In both cases the default WooCommerce email templates will be sent to customers for those actions if there are no such custom template assigned.

Okay, so I’m still a little bit confused on this, please. Do I just delete the ones out of here that I don’t want to use?

As I am using all of these – https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/7s69q40rl9bzun2fjpcb9/CleanShot-2026-05-12-at-15.42.48-2x.jpg?rlkey=em5pn8h0cbho06sr9ex61j3x8&dl=0

And how does the email builder know which ones are allocated to what? Is it in the top right-hand corner here on the template? – https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/fhg2bc3ysg8uyusbpddfw/CleanShot-2026-05-12-at-15.46.15-2x.jpg?rlkey=1sgjm3fhmoqqgctxp9w1j044a&dl=0

Also, rather than deleting them all in case I want to use them in the future, can I just deactivate them? Do I have to go into each of these templates and set it to default in the top-right-hand corner? Is that how it works?

Also, just so I’m aware, does this have any effect on the site speed at all, having these being used?

    Hello @Allan Morrow,

Instead of deleting all the templates in case you may want to use them in the future, you can simply deactivate them. To do this, please open each template and set the default type in the top-right corner. This is how the system works.

We recommend deactivating the templates you do not currently need, as you may wish to use some of them later on your website. The templates are configured based on the email type selected in the top-right corner, as previously mentioned.

It is perfectly fine to keep them saved as templates without sending them to your customers for now if those are set as default template type. This will not affect the website’s performance. You can also refer to the documentation of the email builder we suggested for further guidance.

    Best regards,
