    Hello,

I’ve inherited a site built on your XStore theme, the current live site is running version 4.21.1 (and a child theme). Upon updating to the latest version the layout/styling breaks badly. I’ve created a staging site which is running the latest version of the theme so it can be safely worked on (and where a comparison can be made). I’m assuming that the jump from 4.21.1 is very big which explains the breaks in the design?

Is someone able to aid me in updating my client’s website to use the latest version of the theme without having to make major edits/changes?

    Many thanks,

    James

    Hello @jamesmonkdesign,

As several major updates have been released, including numerous improvements and layout modifications, you will need to manually adjust certain sections and page content to meet your specific requirements. Please note that we do not provide additional customization through our support forum.

We recommend making these adjustments on a staging website first and then migrating the updated content to your live site. For assistance with this process, please contact your hosting provider to ensure a smooth and efficient transition.

If you have some specific questions related to the content or some widgets, we are here to suggest you some ideas or solutions.

    Best regards,
    The 8Theme Team

Thanks for the reply, it’s a shame that you’re unable to provide any support for an update issue caused by your own theme but it’s good to know for future reference.

    Dear James,

We are sorry to hear that. All websites should be updated regularly, approximately every 1–2 months, as WooCommerce or WordPress release new versions. We also perform updates accordingly. The reason is that technology evolves constantly, and so do hackers’ skills. It’s impossible to predict every potential issue in advance, as new security vulnerabilities appear regularly, and new design techniques, animations, WordPress, WooCommerce, PHP, and server-side technologies also improve continuously.

That’s why most of our customers keep their products up to date. The fact that you are using version 5 or lower indicates that no updates have been made for more than two years, which is quite risky. If updates had been done gradually, you wouldn’t have noticed any visual changes. However, since your site hasn’t been updated for such a long time, there is a high chance that something may not work properly.

We recommend creating a backup before each update, testing it on a staging environment, and performing updates regularly—at least every 2–3 months. This approach will help ensure everything runs smoothly.

    Best regards,
    8Theme’s Team
