Help with updating theme - by klxtl - on WordPress WooCommerce support

Hello,

I know that there was a new update for the Royal Theme, so I was wondering if I can get help in updating the theme, I made a few changes to the original theme file, so How do I go about in not having those changes lost after the theme update. Please help. Thank you.

Hello,

You need create a child theme and copy modified files in the child theme folder
https://www.8theme.com/demo/docs/royal/#!/2_child_theme

Also you need create a back up of the files and database before update
https://www.8theme.com/demo/docs/royal/#!/installation_upgrade (1.5 Theme Upgrade).

Hello,

We have already created and included child theme in theme package. You just need to find royal-child folder in the theme package and upload it to /wp-content/themes/ folder.

I’ve created child theme for you. Now you need copy the modified files into the directory wp-content/themes/royal-child and css changes should be moved in the file wp-content/themes/royal-child/style.css.

After updating the theme, will everything that is found on the Theme Options tab, will it transfer over to the new theme version? OR how do I save that into the child theme or how does it work? Thank you.

Hello,

All changes you set in Theme Options will be saved after update.
Please read attentively how to update the theme:
https://www.8theme.com/demo/docs/royal/#!/installation_upgrade > 1.5 Theme Upgrade
Don’t forget to re-save your Royal options after upgrading the theme. Navigate to admin panel > Theme Options and hit Save changes.

Ok great, thank you. I just went ahead and updated the theme and it looks like if I am now using the current version of the theme, but I am noticing that the files (which I had modified) that I had previously added to the child theme are not reflecting on my theme. I have also previously provided FTP credentials. Please advise me. Thank you.

Hello,

You need write the code in functions.php file of the child theme.
As I see you modified images files, so you need write the code where those images should be loaded from.
Or write it in style.css of the child theme as background images for the site elements.

hi, what do you mean by write the code of the images, into the functions.php file, what code do I use? I am somewhat confused. I added the css codes on to the functions.php file for the changes made in custom css, but not sure how to do it for the images.

Hello, the cart icon was changed to color black and I also changed the color of the search icon to color black.

.shopping-container .ico-sum { background-image: url("http://weheartsunglasses.com/wp-content/themes/royal-child/sprite/icons.png") !important; }

Please check cart icon now.

Oh okay, yes that has changed color. Thank you Eva, what about the search icon that shows up when there are no search results, that was also changed to black.

like on this page that i provided on the private content. The page that says “no products were found” the icon should be black, since I had also modified that. I appreciate your help Eva.

Hello klxtl,

this search icon is implemented as .png image so you need to edit file \royal\images\empty-search.png in order to change it.
