I have opened tickets about this before. It’s been an ongoing issue for quite a while, across multiple theme updates. Take a look at the screenshot… from left to right:
    1. using custom size 300×300 in builder > shows correct in builder preview > looking at live page—different image sizes even though they are all set to the exact same (CUSTOM: 300×300).

I’ve opened tickets about this before, and if I recall, the last support person gave me some custom CSS to max out my height at 240 for those image classes—not a reasonable solution.

Early on I had all the site images set to a preset from the dropdown (Medium Square: 300×300) then after a theme update, a bunch of my images sizes broke. Though multiple tickets and testing, I finally found a solution, which was to change all my images to use custom, and input my own dimensions—great. Now that isn’t working for either.

I really need a reliable way to keep consistent images sizes in my pages and wish the builder would just work as it should.

Hmmm interesting. OK, so I see you are setting image attributes in the style panel rather than just the content area. I’ve gone through and made that adjustment across all the images in my about page. It’s close—but still a problem. Now the dimensions are correct, 300×300, however it is stretching some of the images! Look at this screenshot showing the images in the builder versus published. Focus on the fist image with orange can, see how it’s stretched and pixilated now? So i still need some help resolving this in a reliable way. Thank you in advance.

    Hello,

You can configure different settings for different devices, as shown in the following screenshot: https://prnt.sc/U1wnUmczwt9C
Please note that the image widget in question is an element of the Elementor plugin. This means that regardless of the theme activated on your website, the result will remain the same. Therefore, it would be more appropriate to reach out to the plugin’s author rather than the theme’s author for further assistance – https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/elementor/

OK, thanks, however my issue still stands—i am setting image attributes for DESKTOP, in builder viewing DESKTOP, and previewing in DESKTOP. The image is getting stretch and pixelates, as you can see in the previous screenshot.

So are you still saying this is now an elementor problem, and not in the theme? My challenge with that potential answer, is my images sizes continue to get messed up every time I update the theme….

    Dear @sethr,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

To clarify, the issue you are experiencing is related to the default Elementor widget, and the same behavior would occur even if another theme were activated. Regarding your specific question, the image you are using is 300px in size, and you are attempting to crop it into a square while styling it at 300px. The resulting blur is due to the image’s original quality.

To improve the image quality, we recommend cropping it to 500px (as retina) and then styling it at 300px. This adjustment should result in a much sharper image. We have already applied these settings to the first widget on your “About Us” page. You can review the changes here:
    https://prnt.sc/vMgl3YgTjjU4
    https://prnt.sc/CBZKrqy8DCyZ

Please take a moment to review the current settings and let us know if they align with your expectations both visually and functionally.

If you require further customization, feel free to submit a request through our customization panel here: https://www.8theme.com/account/#etheme_customization_panel.

Ok, thanks Jake—this is helpful information, about pixel density / blurriness. But maybe I wasn’t clear enough in describing what I see and am really trying to fix in my last post.

The image is getting stretched / or squeezed in just one axis, not both, so in the PUBLISHED view of the page, the image RATIO is getting munched somehow.

Look at the two images i’m posting now. The one with the pink outline is from inside the builder, where the ratio of the image is correct. Whereas the other one is how it looks when previewing the published page as a user. Do you see how how the image ratio is now wrong? looks squeezed in on the sides. This is what i’m battling.

    Hello @sethr

Did you check both screenshots we provided above ? There is an option to the the object-fit to cover that should fix such issue on images. Could you try to set it and check then ?
As we already wrote before such widget is default so you can also ask for support in the Elementor support forum -> https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/elementor/ as such issue is not related to our theme.
Thanks for respecting our support rules !
