Very Slow Speed (Even with all plugins disabled)

Hi there,

I have the Royal theme installed and it’s running very slow on back-end AND front-end.
It’s causing some strange issues too.

If I disable ALL plugins and clear cache it gets better for short time but then goes back to being slow within a few minutes (EVEN if I keep the plugins disabled).

I have a fast host (WPengine) and use caching/minify etc etc. When I run speed tests after clearing cache etc they are very good but drop quickly.

I also notice that in my WPengine settings this theme causes a Modal Window Popup (see private content) that cannot be removed (unless I switch to another theme).

Just to confirm I have already eliminated plugins being the root cause. I even checked a different theme with plugins enabled and it is OK.

All issues dissappear when I switch theme.
I have already tried deleting and re-installing Royal theme also.

I’d really love to keep the Royal theme as I do like it, but if I can’t get these issues fixed I’ll have to look at something else.

As for the modal window try to disable plugin “wpengine-common” located in the directory wp-content/mu-plugins. Just rename “wpengine-common” folder.

Hi Eva,

I don’t mean to be rude but this is a very generic response.
Those links are simple optimization articles.

You can see from my post that this is a specific theme issue.
I have spent a very long time optimizing for speed and have ALREADY taken every possible step.

The problem is specifically related to the Royal theme. ALL Other themes run very well.

WPengine is specifically designed for WordPress (and is world-class). I cannot disable that plugin as it is required by the host to manage many aspects effeciently. Other themes do NOT cause this problem.

Hi Eva,

As mentioned in my first post.
Yes I CAN get good speed but as soon as I login and revisit pages everything drops again.
The site is already well optimized, that isn’t the issue.

To get it fast I have to purge Cache > Logout > Re-build Cache (visit each page) then re-test.

The speed is great for a short while But it drops again soon after.

I know Google Page speed is not a great metric but to compare.
If I do above steps I can get scores of over 90.
But soon after it drops to under 50.

The way it behaves is more like a bug than a setting/optimization issue.

I have tried everything and spent a long time with my host. It’s definitely the royal them causing the problem.

O.K – So I’ve continued digging into this.

It seems the problem mainly occurs when I am logged in to back-end.

If I login and view front-end it is very slow.
If I logout and page refresh a couple of times (so static content is served) speed is excellent.

Backend is slow ALL the time.

Does that help to pin-point issue?

Hello,

When you’re logged in, caching and optimization doesn’t work. By default caching is disabled for administrators. That’s why you have such results. As for the theme, we optimized it as much as we could. Unfortunately for now there are no other solutions.
