You can write custom css code in Theme Options > Styling > Custom css or in style.css file of a child theme. If you want to edit php files, I would recommend you to do this via child theme – https://xstore.helpscoutdocs.com/article/32-child-theme https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes
